In 1997, my best friend Elaine Bonner Powell and I decided to write novels together. Together, we write as Kasandra Elaine. Our first co-authored book, Her Home or Her Heart, was published by HeartSong Presents in 2002. At the moment, Her Home or Her Heart is out of print, but will be re-released in the near future.
Our next three books, The Lazy M Ranch Series, was published by White Rose Publishing, which is now a division of Pelican Books. These three books can be purchased as both print and e-books from either White Rose Publishing or Amazon. You can see the blurbs on the books page of this website.
The newest Kasandra Elaine book is a cozy mystery, Murder in Maggie Valley. This first book in The Keps Kozy Mystery series will be available from White Bird Publications March 21, 2017. It is available for pre-order from Amazon right now. Elaine and I met as sophomores in high school in 1965. We graduated high school in 1969 from Sabine ISD in East Texas. Until she answered God's call and moved to heaven in May 2015, we spent many years traveling and writing together.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and English from Stephen F. Austin State University. I taught elementary school for twenty years in Texas where I successfully coached over 400 students through the state writing exams.
In addition to my own four co-authored novels, I acted as final editor for two novels published for Evelyn M. Byrne by White Bird Publications - Unknown Magic and Stolen Magic, Books 1 & 2 of the Daughter of Prophecy series which can be purchased at: http://www.whitebirdpublications.com/purchase-books.html or www.amazon.com
Another author who used my services is Vivra Beene. Her collection of short stories is: Thirteen - A Baker's Dozen of Paranormal Punishments. It can be purchased at: White Bird Publications - http://www.whitebirdpublications.com/purchase-books.html or www.amazon.com
Also, I acted as a consulting editor for Peggy Blann Phifer who is the author a publication from Sheaf House-To See the Sun (now available at Amazon)a submission I feel I can not in good conscience work on, I will return the files to the sender with no payment expected.
My belief in Jesus is something I hold as my number one priority. All of the books I have written are targeted for Christian publishing companies, but not all of the books I have edited for other authors have been published by Christian companies. I feel I do an equally good job editing for either CBA or ABA targeted markets.
I retain the right to restrict certain jobs. I will not edit books intended as erotica or hot, steamy submissions with explicit, graphic sex scenes, nor will I edit works that promote satanism, the occult, or books about alternative life styles. If I receive a submission I feel I can’t in good conscience work on, I will return the files to the sender with no payment expected.
My specialty is fiction, although I am open to editing non-fiction manuscripts as well as magazine articles if I feel I can do an adequate job. If I think the topic is beyond me, I will return the work and suggest an alternate editor if I can. No payment will be expected in these circumstances.
My passion as an editor is for the new writer. I spent 20 years teaching elementary school students to write, and when I retired from teaching I knew God wasn't finished with me as a teacher. I most love to guide inexperienced writers on the path to publication. My goal is to lead the new writer through the unknown trails to publication and then encourage them to fly away to bigger and better experiences.
